In memoriam Austin Sawicki 1982-2008

In memoriam
Austin Joseph Sawicki
March 24, 1982 – May 29, 2008
Obituary
I write with profound grief and sadness to report the death of Austin Sawicki. Austin had returned home to California and had taken a job as a construction worker. He died in an accident at the work site. He was 26. During his years at NIU, Austin had helped to organize a number of meetings and small conferences. He told me the day he left DeKalb that he considered the Heidegger Conference his crowning achievement as an organizer, something he was very proud of and truly enjoyed doing. Austin worked tirelessly and cheerfully organizing the meeting, even planning ahead to put things in place for the next organizer, and as those of you who attended know, the results of his efforts were terrific.
