The Heidegger Circle recognizes outstanding emerging scholarship through two annual awards.
The Dana Belu Junior Scholar Award for Scholarship on Heidegger, Women, Sex, and Gender
Established in 2026 through the generosity of Dana S. Belu, this award recognizes outstanding work by emerging scholars on Heidegger and questions of women, sex, and/or gender.
Prizes. First prize of $500 and second prize of $250. Winners are recognized in the conference program and present their papers at the annual meeting.
Eligibility. Graduate students at any stage of their studies, including master’s students, and recent PhDs within three years of the degree.
Submissions. Papers of approximately 4,000 words should engage any themes related to women, sex, and/or gender in connection with Heidegger’s thought. Submissions need not address the conference’s special themes. Submissions are made through the regular Heidegger Circle Annual Meeting call for papers; when submitting, simply indicate that you wish your paper to be considered for the award. All papers first undergo the Circle’s standard blind review for acceptance to the conference; accepted papers marked for consideration are then evaluated by the award committee.
Publication. Award winners are strongly encouraged to submit their papers to Gatherings: The Heidegger Circle Annual. Awarded papers are not guaranteed acceptance and will go through the journal’s regular peer review; authors should be prepared to revise.
Current deadline. Submissions are due with the general conference deadline of January 15, 2027.

The Ted Kisiel Junior Scholar Award
The Ted Kisiel Junior Scholar Award recognizes the best submission by a postgraduate or early career researcher at the Heidegger Circle’s annual Satellite Session at the Eastern APA. Up to two honorable mentions may also be featured on the program.
The award honors the legacy of Theodore Kisiel, whose scholarship on Heidegger set a standard for rigorous historical and philosophical inquiry.
Submissions. Papers of no more than 4,000 words (excluding notes) with a 250- to 500-word abstract, prepared for blind review in .doc or .docx format. Submissions should be formatted in 12-point Times New Roman (or comparable) font, with 1″ margins and footnotes (10-point font) rather than endnotes.
